Grants of up to $100,000 to support wine and cider producers who encourage visitors to wine regions and generate eligible rebatable domestic cellar door sales.

What is the Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grant (WTCD)?

The Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grant (WTCD) is designed to:

  • Offset costs associated with running a cellar door, making it more sustainable for producers to maintain and expand visitor-facing operations.
  • Provide direct financial relief tied to actual sales performance, calculated as 29% of the notional wholesale selling price of eligible rebatable domestic cellar door sales (capped at $100,000 per producer, per year).

This program forms part of a broader suite of measures developed in consultation with the Australian wine industry following reforms to the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) rebate arrangements. It complements the $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package and is administered by Wine Australia on behalf of the Commonwealth in line with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines.

Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grants objectives

The grant aims to:

  • Support wine and cider producers who add value through wine tourism and regional cellar door operations.
  • Encourage increased visitation to wine regions across Australia.
  • Provide direct financial assistance that reflects actual cellar door sales performance.

Sales eligible for Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grants support

Eligible applicants can claim 29% of the notional wholesale selling price of their eligible rebatable domestic cellar door sales.

To qualify:

  • The sales must not already have been used to meet the $1,207,000 eligibility threshold.
  • The sales must have occurred while the applicant or a related entity owned or leased the physical cellar door.
  • At least 50% of the rebatable domestic cellar door sales included in the application must consist of sales made from the physical cellar door.
  • An associated producer must not already have applied for the grant for the same financial year.

Eligible domestic cellar door sales may include:

  • Wine purchased in person at the physical cellar door and taken away by the customer.
  • Wine purchased in person at the physical cellar door and later delivered to an Australian address.
  • Eligible online, telephone or mail-order sales to end consumers where the final delivery address is in Australia, subject to the program requirements.

Sales that do not qualify as physical cellar door sales include transactions where the purchase itself is completed away from the physical cellar door, such as a later mail order or an online wine club membership.

If eligible applications exceed the $10 million annual funding cap, grant amounts will be reduced proportionally at a consistent rate across approved applicants.
