What is the Quantum Decarbonisation Mission?
The Quantum Decarbonisation Mission (QDM) is a new grant initiative by the Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation in Queensland. This program is designed to support the development and application of quantum technologies to address critical decarbonisation challenges. By fostering innovation in quantum technologies, Queensland aims to enhance its capabilities in reducing carbon emissions and contribute to global efforts in combating climate change.

The objectives of the Quantum Decarbonisation Mission are to:

Projects eligible for QDM support
To be eligible for support under the Quantum Decarbonisation Mission, projects must:
- Address significant decarbonisation challenges through the application of quantum technologies.
- Seek funding between $1 million and $10 million.
- Focus on quantum systems technologies, including quantum computing, quantum sensing, and quantum communications.
Eligible Costs: Salaries for project personnel, equipment and consumables, field research expenses, and essential travel costs.

Organisations eligible for QDM support
Eligible organisations must be Queensland-based and conduct research as part of their core activities. This includes universities, government agencies, not-for-profit organisations, and companies. Applicants must also be registered for GST and have an Australian Business Number.
QDM assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed based on:
- Project Focus and Scientific Merit: Demonstrating how the project will significantly contribute to decarbonisation using quantum technologies.
- Strength of Proposed Collaboration: Showing meaningful roles and commitment from partner organisations.
- Capability Uplift: Enhancing Queenslandโs capabilities in quantum technologies.
- Ability to Deliver the Project: Demonstrating the expertise, governance, and project management capabilities to complete the project on time and within budget.
- Value for Money: Providing a high level of value for the funding requested.

How do I get the QDM?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.
