  • The program does not specify a minimum or maximum amount for individual grants; however, funding requests must reflect the critical needs identified by the Department of Health and Aged Care.

The Aged Care Capital Assistance Program aims to address immediate and critical needs for aged care infrastructure in thin market settings. The objectives of this opportunity include:

  • Supporting the continuation of aged care services that are at risk of immediate or imminent closure.
  • Ensuring health, safety, and wellbeing of older Australians and aged care workers.
  • Securing long-term provision of aged care in areas with a history of market failure and unmet needs.
  • Encouraging collaborative, innovative approaches, particularly in areas with cost-sharing potential.

Projects and expenditure eligible for ACCAP Critical Infrastructure Projects support

Eligible projects for this grant include infrastructure works that support the needs of aged care services in thin market settings. Specifically, eligible activities are:

  • Construction of new builds, extensions, and upgrades, including staff accommodation.
  • Acquisition of land and/or buildings.
  • Purchase of furniture, fittings, and equipment (e.g., beds, mobility equipment, solar panels).
  • IT infrastructure upgrades (e.g., video conferencing, nurse call systems).

Ineligible Expenditures

  • Workforce wages or salaries, including those of management and Board of Directors.
  • Costs for preparing the grant application or related documentation.
  • Ongoing operational costs (e.g., insurance, rent, phone bills).
  • Activities that are primarily funded by other government bodies, unless under co-contribution.
  • Relocation costs for older Australians from aged care services.
  • Costs related to acquiring and operating vehicles.

Other Aged Care Capital Assistance Program – Critical Infrastructure Projects important details that you will need to know

To be eligible, organisations must receive an invitation to apply from the Department of Health and Aged Care. Eligible organisations include:

  • Companies incorporated in Australia.
  • Corporate state or territory entities.
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander corporations.
  • Joint (consortium) applications led by an eligible entity.

 

The assessment of applications will focus on two key criteria:

  1. Critical Need (750 words or less): Applicants must describe the critical need and how the proposed activity will address the issue in line with the program’s objectives.
  2. Management of the Activity (750 words or less): Applicants must demonstrate their organisational capacity to deliver the project. This includes skills and experience, a detailed budget, an activity work plan, and a risk management plan.

 

All assessment criteria will be evaluated as either “Suitable” or “Not Suitable,” with applicants needing a “Suitable” rating in all categories to be successful. The Department will also consider value for money, including alignment with the project’s activity work plan and budget.

Applicants must:

  • Read and understand the guidelines.
  • Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
  • Demonstrate a strong alignment with the fund’s objectives.
  • Provide complete information requirements.

 

Ensure you have the following documentation ready:

  • Activity work plan
  • Indicative budget
  • Risk management plan
  • Written support from the organisation’s decision-makers (e.g., Board of Directors)
