What is the Cancer Patient Support Program (CPSP)?
The Cancer Patient Support Program (CPSP) is a new initiative by the Australian Government designed to provide national leadership in emerging priorities across the cancer control continuum. This program aims to ensure that all Australians living with cancer have access to high-quality, culturally safe support throughout their cancer journey. The CPSP focuses on increasing equity across various tumor types and priority population groups.
CPSP level of support
The CPSP offers grant funding ranging between $400,000 and $1,000,000 per eligible organisation. A total of $16.5 million (GST exclusive) is available until the 2026-27 financial year, with funding allocated over three submission periods.

CPSP objectives
The main objectives of the CPSP are to:
- Provide equitable support and resources across the cancer control continuum.
- Improve cancer outcomes for all Australians.
- Align with the strategic objectives of the Australian Cancer Plan and/or the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Plan.
Projects eligible for CPSP support
Eligible projects must focus on improving outcomes for Australians living with cancer. This includes:
- Education and training of medical professionals.
- Development of decision-making tools and resources for cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and support.
- Awareness campaigns, national roadmaps, guidelines, optimal care pathways, and support and wellbeing forums.
The CPSP will not fund:
- Research-focused projects or clinical trials.
- Direct clinical or telehealth services.
- Major capital expenditure or land purchase.
- Ongoing administrative costs.

Organisations eligible for CPSP support
To be eligible for CPSP funding, applicants must be one of the following:
- Indigenous Corporation
- Registered charity or not-for-profit organization
- Cancer advocacy group
- Community organization
- Company or cooperative
- Incorporated association
- Statutory entity
- Partnership

CPSP assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed based on:
- Ability to meet the program’s objectives and outcomes (40%).
- Evidence and need for the project, including success measurement (40%).
- Organizational capacity and capability (15%).
- Proposed budget and value for money (5%).

How do I get the CPSP?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.
