What is the CITIC Pacific Mining Community Support Fund (CCSF)?

The CPM Community Support Fund (CCSF) is a community grants initiative established by CITIC Pacific Mining (CPM), the developer and operator of the Sino Iron project located approximately 100km south of Karratha in Western Australia.

The fund provides small grants to eligible not-for-profit and community organisations delivering projects that generate lasting social and economic benefits within the West Pilbara region.

The CCSF Grants Program is primarily funded through CPMโ€™s participation in the Containers for Change recycling program and forms part of CPMโ€™s broader commitment to community collaboration, sustainability and long-term regional development.

CITIC Pacific Mining Community Support Fund important dates

Two funding rounds are offered each year:

Round 1

  • Opens: 1 January
  • Closes: 28 February
  • Outcomes announced: 31 March
  • Project completion: By 31 March the following year or within 12 months of fund transfer

Round 2

  • Opens: 1 July
  • Closes: 31 August
  • Outcomes announced: 30 September
  • Project completion: By 30 September the following year or within 12 months of fund transfer

CITIC Pacific Mining Community Support Fund objectives

The fund aligns with CPMโ€™s broader commitment to:

  • Anticipating and assessing operational impacts on the community
  • Building sustainable community partnerships
  • Working with local leaders, organisations and Traditional Owners
  • Enriching the community beyond the life of mine

Through the CCSF, CPM aims to strengthen grassroots organisations and priority initiatives within the Pilbara.

Projects and expenditure eligible for CITIC Pacific Mining Community Support Fund support

 Projects must align with one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Education and training
  • Healthy, active lifestyles
  • Cultural learning and exchange
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Youth support and development

Projects must be primarily based within:

  • Karratha
  • Roebourne
  • Wickham
  • Point Samson
  • Dampier
  • Cossack
  • Greater Pilbara / City of Karratha region

Funding will not support:

  • An organisationโ€™s normal operating or day-to-day costs
  • Religious activities or political purposes
  • Personal travel or conference attendance
  • Projects or activities already completed

Other CITIC Pacific Mining Community Support Fund important details that you will need to know

Applicants must:

  • Be a constituted, financially viable not-for-profit organisation
  • Preferably be incorporated
  • Be primarily based in the Pilbara / City of Karratha region
  • Deliver a project aligned to at least one CCSF focus area

 

Organisations may submit one application per round.

Ineligible Applicants

  • Individuals
  • Sole traders
  • Companies

 

Applications are assessed by CPM against the published Selection Criteria and subject to availability of funds.

While no formal percentage weightings are provided, applications are likely assessed on:

1. Alignment with Focus Areas

Clear demonstration that the project directly contributes to one or more CCSF priority areas.

2. Community Impact

Evidence of measurable, meaningful benefit to the Pilbara community, including:

  • Social outcomes
  • Economic contribution
  • Youth development
  • Cultural strengthening

 

3. Organisational Capability

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Financial viability
  • Governance structure
  • Incorporated status (preferable)
  • Capacity to deliver within timeframe

 

4. Project Feasibility

  • Realistic timeframe
  • Clear project scope
  • Achievable outcomes within 12 months

 

5. Budget Transparency

  • Clear income and expense breakdown
  • Justification for amount requested
  • Evidence that funds will be used directly for project delivery

 

6. Geographic Relevance

Projects must be primarily located within the specified Pilbara communities.

To successfully receive funding, applicants should demonstrate:

  • A clearly defined project aligned to at least one focus area
  • Strong community benefit with tangible, local outcomes
  • Organisational credibility and governance capability
  • A realistic, well-costed budget
  • Financial transparency and supporting documentation
  • Capacity to complete and acquit the project within 12 months
  • Willingness to publicly acknowledge CPM support
  • Strong supporting evidence such as letters of support or impact data

  • Organisation details (ABN, incorporation status, contact details)
  • Project description
  • Clear explanation of how funding will be used
  • Explanation of project benefits
  • Project timeframe
  • Full income and expenditure budget
  • Proof of not-for-profit status
