What is the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program – Small Grants (CSSG)?

The Climate-Smart Agriculture Program (CSAP) is a transformative initiative aimed at boosting Australia’s agricultural productivity and sustainability. Funded through the Natural Heritage Trust, the program dedicates itself to fostering climate-smart practices that help protect and utilize Australia’s natural resources more efficiently. The Small Grants are a crucial part of this program, offering funding to grassroots projects that lead the way in sustainable agriculture.

CSSG level of support

For the first round of the CSAP Small Grants, up to $4.33 million is available, with individual grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000. These grants are designed to fund small-scale projects over a two-year period, ending in November 2026.

The primary goal of the CSAP Small Grants is to enhance knowledge and implementation of climate-smart, sustainable agricultural practices across Australian farms and communities. These practices aim to reduce emissions, build resilience against climate change, and promote sustainable use of natural resources.

Projects eligible for CSSG support

Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Initiatives to improve soil health and water management.
  • Efforts to increase biodiversity and the sustainable management of agricultural landscapes.
  • Projects that demonstrate and trial innovative farming techniques that can be applied across various climatic conditions.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Farmers and agricultural workers
  • Local Landcare groups
  • Indigenous groups and enterprises
  • Non-government organizations involved in sustainable agriculture

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • Value for money
  • Alignment with grant objectives
  • Capability to deliver project outcomes
  • Inclusion of First Nations engagement

  • Read and understand the guidelines.
  • Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
  • Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
  • Provide complete information requirements.
