What is the Regional Precincts and Places Infrastructure & Technology Program?
The Regional Precincts and Places Infrastructure & Technology Program (Stream 3, Round 2) is part of the Queensland Governmentโs Advance Queensland initiative, which aims to support the development and sustainability of regional innovation precincts and places across Queensland.
This program is a critical component of the broader Innovation for a Future Economy 2022-2032 Roadmap, designed to bolster Queensland’s innovation infrastructure, attract investment, and create jobs in regional areas.

- Maximum grant amount โ $3 million
Applications that include a matched funding contribution from the applicant or collaborative partners are highly regarded.
RPPIT important dates
- Applications Close: Once all funds are allocated
- Projects must commence within six months of approval and be completed within 36 months from the contract start date.

The primary objectives of the program are to:
- Co-locate innovation precincts with universities and research organisations to enhance knowledge transfer and commercialisation.
- Increase high-value knowledge economy jobs and support regional economic diversification.
- Improve access to advanced scientific and technology equipment.
- Attract and retain innovative businesses in regional Queensland.
Projects and expenditure eligible for RPPIT support
Eligible projects must focus on establishing infrastructure or acquiring plant and equipment, including digital infrastructure, at the innovation precinct or place. Examples include:
- Building infrastructure.
- Internal digital infrastructure.
- Equipment necessary for the project.
However, projects solely focused on property purchases, maintenance, or salaries are ineligible.

Organisations eligible for RPPIT support
To apply, your organisation must:
- Be a corporate entity (not an individual) registered for GST with an ABN.
- Be a partner in a regional Queensland innovation precinct or place.
- Collaborate with one or more organisations based in regional Queensland.
Universities, research organisations, and local government entities are eligible to apply.
However, core State and Federal Government departments are not eligible but may be involved as precinct or place partners.

RPPIT assessment criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Significance to the Regional Innovation Place: Projects should increase collaboration capabilities and enhance infrastructure to support future industry-focused collaborations.
- Strength of Collaborations: Demonstrating strong partnerships with regional stakeholders committed to the projectโs success is crucial.
- Value and Viability: Projects must be well-planned, achievable within the defined timeframe, and provide value for money.
- Sustainability and Resilience: Projects should contribute to the long-term success and sustainability of the innovation precinct or place.

How do I get the RPPIT?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.

- Quotes for services, equipment, and a letter of support from precinct or collaborative partners.
