What is the Livestock and Animal Traceability Development Implementation and Improvement Grant (LATDII)?

The Livestock and Animal Traceability Development, Implementation, and Improvement Grant Round is part of the Australian Trade System Support initiative. This program falls under the measure aimed at Cultivating Australia’s Agricultural Traceability โ€” Promoting and Protecting Premium Agriculture.

LATDII level of support

The program will award grants totaling $4 million (exclusive of GST) across the 2023-24 and 2024-25 periods. Individual grants will range from $150,000 to $500,000.

LATDII objectives

The primary objectives of this grant opportunity are to:

  • Support the adoption and extension of technologies that enhance national traceability capacity and capability.
  • Reduce barriers to the adoption of traceability.
  • Increase regulatory compliance capability where there are existing or emerging traceability requirements.

Projects eligible for LATDII support

Projects eligible for this grant include those that:

  • Enhance understanding of traceability regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate industry-led innovation, building on existing technologies and proof of concepts.
  • Improve data accuracy and automation.
  • Support traceability for species not currently covered by existing systems.
  • Extend trials of industry technology to provide assurance to regulators.

Projects developed under this grant should consider potential links to projects under the 2023 Regulatory Technology Research and Insights Grant Round. They should also address at least one of the following priority areas:

  • Align processes and technologies for multiple purposes.
  • Enhance trust and adoption of traceability.
  • Implement interoperable systems.
  • Strengthen awareness of agricultural traceability.
  • Establish a flexible and responsive research and development agenda.

Other LATDII important details that you will need to know

Eligible applicants include:

  • Incorporated companies, trustees, and associations.
  • Commonwealth, state/territory, and local government entities.
  • Partnerships and consortia (led by an eligible organisation).
  • Not-for-profit organisations.
  • Registered Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporations.

Applications will be assessed by the Selection Advisory Panel (SAP), which includes employees from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, experts from the agricultural sector, and other Commonwealth officers with relevant expertise.

Applicants must:

  • Read and understand the guidelines.
  • Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
  • Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
  • Provide complete information requirements.

 

Ensure your application:

  • Explicitly states how your project aligns with the grant objectives, outcomes, and priority areas.
  • Provides detailed information on how the project will be implemented and the expected benefits.

Applications and supporting documents are available on the GrantConnect website. Submit the application form via email to the department at traceability.project@aff.gov.au by 9:00pm AEDT on 1 July 2024 to be eligible for consideration.
