What is the Grid Enhancing Technologies?

The Grid Enhancing Technologies (GET) Program offers a total of $30 million in competitive grant funding over four years (2025โ€“26 to 2028โ€“29) to accelerate the development, trialling, and deployment of innovative grid technologies on Australiaโ€™s electricity networks.

By enabling more effective use of existing infrastructure, the program seeks to support the transition to renewable energy, reduce electricity costs, enhance energy security, and improve network resilience in the face of climate and cyber threats.

The program is part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Waterโ€™s (DCCEEW) efforts to deliver secure, reliable, and affordable energy for all Australians.

Grid Enhancing Technologies objectives and outcomes

The GET Program aims to:

  • Demonstrate and test grid enhancing technologies in real-world Australian electricity networks
  • Identify the costs and benefits of these technologies
  • Explore pathways for broader national deployment

Successful projects will:

  • Improve utilisation of existing grid infrastructure to deliver renewable energy to consumers more efficiently
  • Relieve grid congestion โ€œblack spotsโ€ and reduce curtailment of renewable generation
  • Reduce the need for new transmission infrastructure
  • Enhance visibility, control, resilience, and safety of electricity networksโ€”especially for bushfires, extreme weather, and cybersecurity threats

    • test and demonstrate the effectiveness of a range of technologies that support Australian electricity networks
    • identify costs and benefits of key technologies and pathways for wider application in Australian electricity networks.
