What is the Grid Enhancing Technologies?
The Grid Enhancing Technologies (GET) Program offers a total of $30 million in competitive grant funding over four years (2025โ26 to 2028โ29) to accelerate the development, trialling, and deployment of innovative grid technologies on Australiaโs electricity networks.
By enabling more effective use of existing infrastructure, the program seeks to support the transition to renewable energy, reduce electricity costs, enhance energy security, and improve network resilience in the face of climate and cyber threats.
The program is part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Waterโs (DCCEEW) efforts to deliver secure, reliable, and affordable energy for all Australians.
Grid Enhancing Technologies level of support
- Minimum funding amount: $250,000
- Maximum funding amount: $5,000,000
- Supports up to 100% of eligible project costs
- Co-contribution: Not required.

Grid Enhancing Technologies objectives and outcomes
The GET Program aims to:
- Demonstrate and test grid enhancing technologies in real-world Australian electricity networks
- Identify the costs and benefits of these technologies
- Explore pathways for broader national deployment
Successful projects will:
- Improve utilisation of existing grid infrastructure to deliver renewable energy to consumers more efficiently
- Relieve grid congestion โblack spotsโ and reduce curtailment of renewable generation
- Reduce the need for new transmission infrastructure
- Enhance visibility, control, resilience, and safety of electricity networksโespecially for bushfires, extreme weather, and cybersecurity threats
Projects and expenditure eligible for Grid Enhancing Technologies support
Your project must:
- be aimedย at delivering benefits for Australian energy consumers by accelerating the development, trialling and application of grid enhancing technologies in electricity networks
- incorporate activities that directly relate to the program objectives and outcomes including, but not limited to:
- test and demonstrate the effectiveness of a range of technologies that support Australian electricity networks
- identify costs and benefits of key technologies and pathways for wider application in Australian electricity networks.
Applicants cannot use grant funding for:
- Costs incurred before grant approval
- Costs of preparing applications, reports, or variations
- General business expenses, office equipment, and rental costs
- ICT/software purchases unless directly project-related
- Insurance, ongoing operational expenses, and debt financing
- Construction or renovation unless clearly project-specific
- Travel/overseas expenses above 10% of total project cost (unless approved)
- Non-project staff training or catering costs

Other Grid Enhancing Technologies important details that you will need to know
Organisations eligible for Grid Enhancing Technologies support
You can apply if you:
- have an Australian business number (ABN)
- are registered for GST
- are non-income tax exempt
And are one of the following entities:
- an entity incorporated in Australia
- a university
- a publicly funded research organisation (PFRO) as defined in section 14 of the guidelines
- a Commonwealth, state, territory or local government body (including government business enterprises).
You canโt apply if you are:
- an organisation, or your project partner is an organisation, included on the National Redress Schemeโs list ofย Institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme
- an employer of 100 or more employees that hasย not compliedย with the Workplace Gender Equality Act (2012)
- an individual
- a Regional Development Australia Committee
- an unincorporated association
- a partnership
- a trust (however, an incorporated trustee may apply on behalf of a trust).
Partner with other organisations
Joint (consortia) applications are allowed, with a lead applicant responsible for the project.

Grid Enhancing Technologies assessment criteria
Applications must meet all eligibility criteria and score at least 50% on each assessment criterion.
Criterion 1: Alignment with program objectives and outcomes (40 points)
Demonstrate:
- Specific network benefits: capacity, cost reduction, congestion, renewable integration
- Additionality: how this project exceeds business-as-usual benefits
Criterion 2: Capability to deliver (20 points)
Provide:
- Evidence of financial, technical, and resource capacity
- Key personnel and partner expertise
- Risk management, including cybersecurity/national security
Criterion 3: Outcomes and scalability (40 points)
Show:
- Real-world insights on cost-benefits and deployment performance
- Scaling strategy, timeframes, and expected consumer benefits
- Plan for dissemination and uptake in Australian networks
How do I get the Grid Enhancing Technologies?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project/s as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.

You must submit:
- A project plan
- A detailed budget including all income and expenditure
- A risk management plan
- Letters of support from all project partners
- Evidence to support assessment criterion responses
