Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund objectives
The CSRFF aims to:
- Maintain or increase participation in sport and recreation.
- Promote the rational development of quality, well-designed, and well-utilised facilities.
- Prioritise projects that lead to facility sharing, rationalisation, and increased sustainability.
Projects eligible for Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund support
CSRFF can fund new or upgraded facilities that will maintain or increase physical activity or result in a more rational use of facilities. Priority is given to projects that lead to facility sharing and rationalisation, as multi-purpose facilities reduce infrastructure requirements and increase sustainability.
Examples of Eligible Projects:
- New Playing Surfaces: Includes ovals, courts, synthetic surfaces, etc.
- Change Rooms and Ablutions: Essential facilities to support sports activities.
- Sports Storage: Dedicated storage spaces for sports equipment.
- Clubrooms: Includes social spaces, kitchens, administration areas, and viewing areas. These areas have a minimal impact on physical activity and are considered a lower priority for funding.
- Resurfacing of Existing Sports Surfaces: Expected to be budgeted as part of the ongoing operation of the facility, typically over 7 to 10 years. These projects are considered a low priority for funding and may attract reduced funding of 16.66%.
Ineligible Projects:
Funds will not be available for:
- Projects that commence before approvals are announced.
- Development of privately owned facilities.
- Arts, music, craft, and non-physical recreation facilities.
- Facilities proposed by government departments, schools, or parents and citizen associations unless there is a demonstrated community need.
- Recurring maintenance or operating costs of existing facilities.
- Purchase of land, landscaping, carparks, and access roads.
- Playgrounds, bikeways, or pathways.
- Non-land-based facilities (e.g., boat launching ramps, ocean pools, marinas).
- Non-fixed equipment or sports-specific equipment (e.g., electronic targets, scoreboards).
- Facilities or fixtures for serving alcohol.
- Projects not meeting Australian Standards and National Construction Code.
