What is the Advanced Manufacturing Business Improvement Program (AMBIP)?
The Advanced Manufacturing Business Improvement Program (AMBIP) aims to support Tasmanian-based advanced manufacturing enterprises to take on business improvements that will drive growth, efficiencies, competitiveness and enhance sustainability.
The program has been established as part of the Tasmanian Government’s Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan 2024. Funding of $150,000 has been allocated each financial year for three years (from 2020-21 to 2023-24).
AMBIP level of support
Grants
- Available funding of $150,000 is allocated for financial year 2023-2024
- Maximum grant assistance of $20,000
Co-contribution
- Up to 50 per cent contribution subject to the applicant contributing at least 50 per cent of the project costs in cash
AMBIP important dates
- Applications open Thursday, 26 August 2021.
- Applications will be assessed in the order that they are received, and the round will remain open until allocated funding is exhausted (from 2020-21 to 2023-24).

AMBIP objectives
The AMBIPโs objectives are to:
- to support Tasmanian-based advanced manufacturing enterprises to tackle business improvements that will boost growth, efficiencies, competitiveness and building resilience
- to support Tasmaniaโs advanced manufacturers to operate in a highly competitive and rapidly changing global environment
Organisations eligible for AMBIP support
To be eligible, the applicant:
- must be able to demonstrate that they are a Tasmanian-based advanced manufacturing enterprise, or relevant industry group supporting Tasmanian advanced manufacturing enterprises
- must have an Australian Business Number and be registered for GST
- cannot receive in excess of $20,000 per financial year under this program
- must have annual sales turnover greater than $175,000 (indicatively) and less than $50 million
- must not be a consultant or intermediary; and
- must not be subject to any legal disability, including bankruptcy or liquidation.

Projects and activities eligible for AMBIP support
Eligible projects and activities include:
- Professional advice on improving business sustainability
- Specialist information on advice on lean management
- Professional advice on business, governance, and succession reviews
Eligible project expenditure cannot be retrospective and cannot include costs such as capital expenditure, training expenses, salaries and wages, general operational expenditure.

Expenditure eligible for AMBIP support
Eligible expenditure includes:
- Advice on strategies associated with new processes or systems, lean manufacturing, change management or supply chain efficiencies.
- Advice on improving business sustainability through benchmarking and the identification of cost benefits by implementing carbon and waste reduction initiatives
- Business, governance and succession reviews, strategic planning, and process planning.
Ineligible expenditure includes:
- Capital equipment
- Reimbursement of retrospective project expenditure
- Training expenses โ accredited or unaccredited
- Certifications โ such as ISO09001, HACCP
- Salaries and wages
- General operational business expenses including office expenses, maintenance costs, accounting, legal, compliance, government fees and software licensing (installation or upgrades)
- Costs associated with patents and intellectual property.
- Product prototype research and development.

Information to prepare for the AMBIP application
You must provide the following documents with your application:
- Project plan
- Project budget
- Evidence that you are an advanced manufacturer or has the potential to become an advanced manufacturer with the proposed project
- Evidence of financial viability including your strategy and any supporting evidence that demonstrates your ability to co-fund the project e.g. financial statements, loan agreements, cash flow documents
- Trust deed (where applicable)

You should read and understand the guidelines. A successful application exhibits the following:
- meets all aspects of the eligibility criteria
- shows that the project to be undertaken with the grant funding aligns to the purpose of the grant program
- has clear well-structured answers to all the assessment criteria questions, and
- contains, where requested, quality documented evidence to support your claims against the eligibility and/or assessment criteria.
