What is the Aboriginal Business Growth Program?
The Aboriginal Business Growth Program (ABGP) is an initiative by the Victorian Government designed to support the growth and development of Aboriginal Victorian businesses and organisations. The program aims to foster economic inclusion, enhance business capabilities, and strengthen connections to community, Country, and culture.
ABGP level of support
- Minimum grant amount $10,000
- Maximum grant amount $100,000
Co-contribution Requirement: While a financial co-contribution is not mandatory, applicants who include a co-contribution are encouraged to provide details of their financial commitment. Projects with a co-contribution must demonstrate that the organisation can meet this financial obligation.

The program is designed to:
- Provide Aboriginal businesses with access to capital and expertise.
- Enhance business sustainability and competitiveness.
- Support Aboriginal enterprises in achieving their economic development goals.

Projects and expenditure eligible for ABGP support
Projects that support business improvement and growth are eligible for funding under the ABGP. Examples of eligible activities include:
- Acquisition of new equipment and assets to increase business income generation.
- Improvement of business processes and operational procedures through new software or systems.
- Development of new products or enhancement of service offerings.
- Professional development and training for business owners and staff.
- Market expansion initiatives to reach new customers or access new markets.

Organisations eligible for ABGP support
To be eligible for the ABGP, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an Aboriginal-owned and operated business based in Victoria.
- Have a current Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST.
- Have an economic connection to regional Victoria.

ABGP assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed based on how well they meet the following criteria:
- Alignment with Program Objectives (50%): How well the proposed activities support the programโs goals, including business sustainability and financial viability.
- Project Planning and Readiness (30%): The level of planning and capability demonstrated by the applicant to deliver the project.
- Support for Regional Aboriginal Community, Culture, and Economic Inclusion (20%): The extent to which the business benefits regional Victoria and supports Aboriginal community connections.

How do I get the ABGP?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.
Information to prepare for the ABGP application
Applicants should prepare the following information:
- Confirmation of Aboriginal business status (e.g., membership in Kinaway Chamber of Commerce or a letter from an Aboriginal-led organisation).
- Financial documentation, especially for grants over $50,000.
- Project details, including budget, timelines, and evidence of financial viability.
