What is the NDIS Knowledge and Skill Development?
The Knowledge and Skill Development Grant is a funding opportunity administered by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. This grant is part of the Support for NDIS Providers Grants Program, designed to promote the rights, health, safety, and wellbeing of people with disabilities participating in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
NKSD level of support
- Total Funding Available: $5 million over two years
- Minimum Grant Amount: $100,000
- Maximum Grant Amount: $500,000
- Project Duration: Between 12 months and 3 years

- Increase the knowledge and skills of people with disabilities to exercise their rights
- Enhance provider and worker knowledge of the rights of people with disabilities
- Support the delivery of quality and safe NDIS supports and services
Projects eligible for NKSD support
Eligible projects must align with the grant’s objectives and may include activities such as:
- Peer-to-peer workshops
- Development of digital resources (e.g., apps, podcasts)
- Interactive online environments
- Resource development (e.g., handbooks, websites, e-products, animations)
- Training and information sessions
- Pilot programs
- Capability building workshops

Expenditure eligible for NKSD support
Eligible Expenditure:
- Salary costs, operating and administration expenses directly related to the project, development of accessible tools and resources, travel and accommodation within Australia, sub-contracting costs, and monitoring and evaluation expenses.
Ineligible Expenditure:
- Purchase of land, major capital expenditure, lease arrangements, retrospective costs, general ongoing administration costs, major construction or capital works, overseas travel, and activities funded through NDIS plans or those that are the role of peak bodies.

Organisations eligible for NKSD support
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Have an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Have an account with an Australian financial institution
- Be one of the following entity types: a company incorporated in Australia, an association incorporated in Australia, or an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation

NKSD assessment criteria
Applicants must address all the following assessment criteria:
1. Activities and Need:
- Detail the activities to be delivered and their necessity.
- Identify the beneficiaries and the location of the project.
2. Impact:
- Explain how the project will increase knowledge and skills to exercise and uphold the rights of people with disabilities.
- Describe monitoring and evaluation methods.
3. Capability and Capacity:
- Demonstrate the organisation’s capability to deliver the project, including meaningful engagement with people with disabilities, governance oversight, partnerships, and sustainability of outcomes.

How do I get the NKSD?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.
Information to prepare for the NKSD application
Prepare the following documents:
- Completed Application Form
- Budget Proposal
- Letter of support from your organisationโs board, CEO, or equivalent
- Letters of support from consortium members (if applicable)
- Financial statements (accountant declaration or audited financial statements depending on the amount requested)
