What is the Business Basics Grant Program (BBGP)?
The Business Basics Grants Program (BBGP) provides support to small businesses in Queensland to enhance their core skills and adopt best practices. This round focuses on fostering business resilience, with funding available for projects in business continuity, security planning, and sustainability. The program has 2 application stages:
Stage 1: Registration of Interest (ROI)
- Submit an online form to confirm eligibility. Selected businesses will be invited to proceed to Stage 2.
Stage 2: Full Application
- Provide detailed business information, project descriptions, expected outcomes, and supporting evidence such as supplier quotes.

- Grant Amount: $5,000
- Co-contribution: None required

BBGP objectives
The primary objectives of the Business Basics Grants Program are to:
- Increase business confidence and skills.
- Enhance long-term turnover, profit, and employment.
- Improve business resilience and survivability.
Projects eligible for BBGP support
The grant can be used for projects in the following priority areas:
Business Continuity and Succession Planning
- Develop and implement business continuity plans.
- Create emergency evacuation plans or training programs.
- Purchase emergency kit equipment and related software.
- Upgrade online or cloud-based accounting systems.
Security Planning and Solutions
- Implement physical security measures like surveillance cameras and alarms.
- Conduct cyber security risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
Sustainability
- Conduct sustainability assessments or audits.
- Implement energy-efficient practices or technologies.
- Develop plans to localise suppliers.
The grant will not fund:
- Goods and services paid using cryptocurrencies, cash, barter, or in-kind.
- General business operating costs like bookkeeping, tax returns, and salaries.
- Marketing or advertising services.
- Real estate/property fees, salaries, travel, and accommodation.
- Stand-alone computer hardware unless bundled with security solutions.

Other BBGP important details that you will need to know
Organisations eligible for BBGP support
To be eligible, businesses must:
- Have less than 20 employees.
- Be operating with an active Australian Business Number (ABN).
- Be registered for GST.
- Have a registered Queensland headquarters.
- Have a minimum trading history of 1 year.
- Have a turnover between $75,000 and $300,000 for the last financial year (2022/23).
- Not have received funding in previous rounds of the Business Basics Grants.
- Not be insolvent or have owners/directors who are undischarged or currently bankrupt.

BBGP assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed based on:
- The potential to enhance business core skills and resilience.
- The expected positive impact on long-term revenue growth and profit.
- Likelihood of creating job growth within the business.
- Demonstrated value for money.

How do I get the BBGP?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.
Information to prepare for the BBGP application
Applicants must prepare the following information:
- Necessary business and contact information
- Responsible Person demographic information.
If your Stage 1 ROI application is shortlisted, you will be invited to submit a full application. In addition to the information provided in your ROI, you will also be asked in the full application to:
- update your core business and contact information (if required)
- provide business demographic information and business description
- provide proposed project details โ priority area and how it will enhance core skills/business competitiveness
- provide proposed project expected outcomes โ growth in revenue, gross profit and headcount and how your project would help you to achieve those outcomes
- provide a completed 100-points of identification check form for the nominated Responsible Person
- verify the main business location (if applicable)
- verify the link between the trust and the business conducting the business activity (if applicable)
- verify the link between the Responsible Person and business (if applicable)
