What is the Community-based Crime Action Grants (CBCA)?
The CBCA Grant offers financial assistance for short-term projects focused on crime prevention and community safety. It targets initiatives that engage at-risk youth between the ages of 8-17, aiming to prevent their involvement in the youth justice system.

CBCA objectives
Complementing existing local responses and knowledge, the Community-based Crime Action grants will support practical solutions to:
- reduce youth crime and re-offending
- enhance community safety
- improve early intervention and prevention services for at-risk youth
- help young people involved in the youth justice system to
- build positive relationships and participation in their community
- improve their health outcomes
- engage with education and training to increase life and work skills.
Projects eligible for CBCA support
An idea community proposal will include:
- a targeted engagement of individuals and groups aged 8 to 17 years old
- a new idea or concept that has not already been tried or is building on a project or initiative that is already working in your community. It should have measurable impact against the Working Together Changing the Story: Youth Justice Strategy 2019โ23
- a response to local youth crime matters in your community including how you engaged with community, who you met with, their concerns and how the idea/project will address these concerns. Find tips on engaging with your community below
- a demonstration of culturally safe and local partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
- a demonstration of how your idea/project addresses the causes of youth crime and delivers positive outcomes for young people who are, or at risk of, committing crime
- a performance and outcomes measure that reflects the needs and aspirations of young people in the community.

Organisations eligible for CBCA support
Eligibility for the CBCA Grant extends to a variety of organizations, including not-for-profits, legal entities, and joint partnerships. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations and Indigenous businesses are especially encouraged to apply.

The CBCA employs a detailed assessment process to ensure that all projects align with the grantโs objectives. This includes checks for eligibility, alignment with funding criteria, addressing local priorities, and fit within budget constraints.

How do I get the CBCA?
Applicants must:
- Read and understand the guidelines.
- Ensure eligibility for the funding. Applicants that do not meet all the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
- Deliver the project as outlined in the application.
- Provide complete information requirements.
Project Focus: Proposals should be activity-based, culturally appropriate, and include community support. Projects should aim at early intervention and keeping communities safe.
Application Requirements: Applicants need to demonstrate clear goals, community consultation, and a plan for assessing and managing risks.
Information to prepare for the CBCA application
Consult with your community and engage local stakeholders to develop your proposal. You will need to include the following information:
- who you met with and how you engaged with your community to understand what they feel needs to happen to respond to youth crime issues
- what the localised concerns are from your community engagement
- how your idea/project will address the concerns identified by the community
- who will be involved in the delivery of your response (provide evidence of their commitment, if possible)
- demonstration of culturally safe and localised partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
